Would be nice to get this under OS3 too.

MUI 3.9 is missing too much infrastructure for this. This feature will stay exclusive for MUI4 only.

Pity, being forced to use some heavy colour selector widget but don't get the extra benefits of where it came from. I guess this also refers to shine and shadow pens of objects too.

Sorry, but you are jumping from one extremity to the contrary. One time you demand support for low end systems with 4 colors at most and the next time you want full support for all kinds of color/image manipulation. This does not make any sense.

MUI4's ability to modify the tinting of external images has absolutely nothing to do with the fancy color selection. There is no connection at all.

Accept that there is a difference between MUI 3.9 and MUI 4.0.

I guess this also refers to shine and shadow pens of objects too.

I have no clue what you are trying to tell here.

Shading of frames (white & black lines) with colour/tint/hue…
I know… MUI4 only… :-)

PS: Support of as wide audience as possible, especially in the GUI layout engine is highly important. That's why I am nagging, and sadly there are only a few interested in bug reports, the rest prefer to wait and see how things turn out.
On some forums you can read that a slow MUI is not of interest to some at all.
A shame, but then you get new things like XO GUI systems emerging with their own problems.
